ABOUT AGFACOLOR

Light. Color. Heritage.

Agfacolor is a contemporary eyewear label founded in 2024 by Nik von Wolff, reimagining a legendary name in color history for today. Von Wolff’s work as a former professor of media design and writer has been shaped by an ongoing interest in the nature of perception — from the pioneering ideas of Gustav Theodor Fechner to Hannes Beckmann, a Bauhaus student and artist who later taught perceptual psychology at Dartmouth College with a focus on Gestalt Theory.

Along this path, von Wolff explored analogue color films from around the world — Kodachrome, Fujichrome, Orwocolor, and Agfacolor — absorbing their distinct palettes and ways of capturing light. Agfacolor stood out for its roots in European painting, naturalistic style, soft tonalities, and rich history.

The trademark registration of Agfacolor for sunglasses and lenses, agreed between Agfa Gevaert N.V. and Nik von Wolff in 2024, marked a new chapter in its brand history in the realm of color and optics.

Today, the brand pairs Zeiss Sunlens optics with an Agfacolor-specific color coating that evokes the depth and warmth of analogue film, set in frames crafted by one of Germany’s most respected wooden eyewear manufactories near Berlin.

Each pair is both a precision instrument and a cultural statement — a way of seeing, and being seen.
